+++The *Collection of Theatrical Science* is a place of paper and of leafing.
Active leafing and being leafed.+++

The archive holds ready a hundred thousand printed and glued, bound leaves in book form, as newspapers in files, in order to produce only a single sound with the study of thoughts in total silence: leafing. At the Castle of Wahn, the arriving visitor/student dives into a forest of leaves, purely outwardly, too. Representative of this, symbolic, the only tree stands in the interior courtyard. It is precisely these leaves which, in spring, summer and autumn make possible a rustling, via which this place could disclose itself to the listener. The wood of the tree is at the same time the raw material for paper: leaves – in many meanings.

Parallel to this, a quiet composition is to be made with leafing in the leaves of books differently small, large, bulky or fine, with drawing paper, newspapers, files, from the long walking over wooden floorboards, through the staircase and with other less significant noises in the Institute. Single quiet deep/medium high notes, taken from the place, can be heard again and again with the total of sounds.

The noises and the membranes are here only so loud that they mix with the sounds of the place, never dominating it. The sounds can only be heard when attention is paid.

After recordings (partly of medieval books in parchment paper, sound of falling book covers, the photo copier, which copies on the note F sharp with an F sharp improvisation on the grand piano belonging to the Institute, voices, telephone and doorbells and one first dry tree leaf at the recording (in the summer of ’99) the composition is elaborated in the studio and subject to many sound processes.

The composition is projected onto the leafs of the central tree in the interior courtyard by means of Piezo - membrane.
