„Brainscape“ Video basiert auf tomographischen Aufnahmen des Gehirns der Videokünstlerin.
Das Video ist eine traumhafte, unwirkliche Flugsimulation über die Oberfläche und in die tiefen Felsschluchten des Gehirns, das eine eisige Eistextur geworden ist. Das Gehirn ist nicht nur ein Denkorgan; es ist auch ein Behältnis der Information: Bilder, Töne und Gerüche, persönlicher und vielleicht auch kollektiver Erinnerungen. Die Gene enthalten den Abdruck von Gehirnstrukturen, die aus Hunderten von Millionen von Jahren der Evolution resultieren. Der Gletscher ist auch ein riesiges Lager der Information über das Klima der Erde und andere Daten, welche Tausende von Jahren zurück reichen. Der Videofilm gibt uns die Gelegenheit, die Gletscher und das Gehirn auf verschiedenen Skalen zu erfahren. Die Durchsichtigkeit der Videobilder - das Reisen durch den erstaunlichen Irrgarten von Falten und die Felsschluchten - macht uns ebenso die Zerbrechlichkeit des Gehirns wie die Zerbrechlichkeit des Gletschers bewusst - und der riesigen Menge an Information, die im Laufe einer langen Zeit angewachsen sind - welche Gefahr laufen, für zukünftige Generationen verloren zu gehen.
The video "Brainscape" is conceived as an animated journey over the landscape of the artist's brain. The video is a dreamlike, unreal flight simulation over the surface and into the deep canyons of the brain which has been given a glacial, icy texture. The brain is not only a thinking organ; it is also a repository of information: pictures, sounds and smells as well as personal and maybe even collective memories. The genes that contain the blue print for the cerebral structure result from hundreds of millions of years of evolution. The glacier is also an immense store of information about the Earth's climate and other data reaching back thousands of years. The animation gives us the opportunity to experience the glaciers and the brain on a different scale. The transparency of the images - travelling though the amazing labyrinth of folds and canyons - make us also aware of the fragility of the brain as much as the fragility of the glacier - and the immense amount of information which has accumulated over a long time - and which is in danger of being lost for future generations.
